The Good Sir James Douglas to his friends. The Black Douglas to his enemies undoubtably Scotland’s Greatest Warrior Knight. A picture tells a thousand stories and we are privileged to have been allowed to use not just one, but 3 Andrew Hillhouse (RIP) Prints on the front. Many thanks to Vicky Hillhouse for giving permission. On the reverse, we have the words of The Black Douglas aka Bravehearts with the kind permission of the American Band Tuatha Dea.

Strathleven Artizans was formed in 2005 to promote the historical links between Robert Bruce and the village of Renton. King Robert the Bruce died on the 7th of June 1329 at the Parish of Cardross. King Robert had asked his great friend, Sir James Douglas to take his heart to the Holy Land, where it would be presented at the High Altar of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. King Robert was seeking forgiveness for all those who had suffered because he became King - friend and foe who had died in battle, and family, who had been killed or imprisoned supporting his Kingship. James agreed but was killed en route to the Holy Land at the Battle of Teba on the 25th of August 1330. Teba is a must-visit for all those interested in this period of Medieval History.

Steven is a Member of the Strathleven Artizans and each year he attends the Douglas Days Festival in Teba, Spain. The Festival honours James Douglas and all those who fought, died and survived in the Battle of Teba. Since 2020, £2,650 has been donated to the Strathleven Artizans from sales of the Robert the Bruce & Sir James Douglas designs, our Freedom Tours at Bannockburn and inkind gifts for the people of Teba. Your donation also supports the Robert the Bruce, King of Scots Heritage Centre in Renton run by the Strathleven Artizans.

We hope you love your Good Sir James Douglas T-shirt/hoodie and thank you for remembering Scotland’s greatest Warrior Knight in song and story.

Thank you,

Steven
